On Friday the 6th I had the opportunity to photograph the Broich family. Craziest thing happened on this shoot...
As we started out we were snapping some shots of the family, Mom, Dad, and 4 boys, and moving from one location to the next. One of the four boys asked me if we'd be on the news that evening. I can only assume that with the big camera and lenses he was linking me to a news photojournalist. So we continued on and moved from location to location in the new Pappajohn Sculpture Park. As we neared the end of the shoot we were shooting on the north side of the park and by chance a photojournalist from WHO-TV in Des Moines asked if they could video tape part of our shoot. Crazy right?
So we were briefly shown that night on the ten o'clock news before the weather forecast. So the young man's question us being on the news was of great coincidence. Mom tells me the boys were upset that we were not on the six o'clock news as they were not up for the ten o'clock news cast. I had a great time and below are a few of our favorites shots.

It was not too long ago that we took family photos for Carla and Family. We shot those photos outside at Greenwood Park. This time Ashley got them in studio and turned out some great shots. For the last photo shoot check here. Below are a few of our favorites.

It is rare that I venture out on photo shoots without Ashley. We love to work together but from time to time schedules don't workout or we get TOO scheduled. We love to be busy! On Monday I took family photos of Kelli, Ben, Holland, and Andrew. Kelli really wanted some fall colors in the shoot. Every fall we try to guess what Mother Nature is going to try and do. We scheduled this one for a little earlier, but the leaves didn't cooperate and we moved it to this later date. Luckily we had enough trees change over and leaves hit the ground to get some fall color in the shots. We took all photos at Greenwood Park in Des Moines. The photo shoot was a lot of fun. Complete with a killer yellow cast...Andrew, some wind in the face, cooler temps, and an acrobatic performance from Ben and Andrew on a railing at the park. Great time! Below are a few of our favorites!

Last Sunday Ashley and I photographed family photos for Jennifer and Jeremy. We shot the photos at Gray's Lake in Des Moines, IA. It was a great weather day, partly cloudy, little breezy, but nice. Of course as soon as we started photos the sun burst out from behind the clouds and created harsh shadows all over the place. I busted out our giant wind block/sun block/baby distraction and did what I could. We grabbed some shady space and snapped away. We all had a fun time and the photos show it. Below are a few of our favorites.

Last weekend Ashley and I photographed family photos for Ashley's Uncle Bob and Aunt Sheila. Along for the photos were their children Mindi and Tony, Mindi's husband Tim, newborn Boston, Hailey, Jake, and Tony's fiance Heidi. Not pictured....Rocco. Whenever you do family photos a couple things may happen....1. No one listens....2. Some listen TOO much....3. Too much talking....and sometimes you get what we have here.........Below are a few of our favorites.

Last Monday Ashley and I got out and photographed family photos for Nancy and John. They were looking from something a little different than a park or near water. So we headed to downtown Des Moines and one of our favorite spots near the Science Center. We took a ton of shots and fought the wind the whole time. The kids were great and as you can see form the photos, had a good time. We took some formal family shots and also captured some fun off the wall stuff. Below are a few of our favorites.

Last weekend Ashley and I photographed family photos for Kristy and John. This was easily one of the smoothest family photo sessions we've ever done. We headed over to the art center and rose garden. The kids were great to work with. There is always a "warming up" session at the beginning of photo shoots with kids. They just have to get to know you a little. After that, you can really get some shots. We had a good time and the photos turned out great. Below are a few of our favorites.

On Wednesday night Ashley and I headed out for a couple photo shoots. It was such a nice night out and they were young kid shoots that we took Cole along for his first official photo shoot. He gets really excited about photo shoots but apparently doesn't understand the photo shoot part. It was more of a play time. He is only 2...but someone needs to learn so they can take over someday. Our first photo shoot was with Lisa, Matt, Lydia, and Zach. You may remember them from a previous shoot. Lydia is about turn three and little zach is four months old. We headed out to Water Works Park and rolled in the grass a while. Lydia certainly had fun and Zach got to experience some new things as well. All in all we had a great time and Cole didn't do so bad himself. Below are a few of our favorites.

This past Sunday Ashley and I photographed family photos for Carla and her family. We had originally scheduled a studio shoot, but due to unforeseen issues at the studio we went ahead and got them outside for some shots. We will be rescheduling the indoor shoot, so watch for that as well. Little Bailey was awesome for the camera. Like most little ones she was quite the spitter as well. You have to get them in a spot and then start snapping. You only get so much time on the clock and if you mess around, the buzzer is going to go off. We had a great time and are looking forward to the rest of the shoot in studio. Below are just a few of our favorites.

Last night I had the opportunity to photograph 8 month old Hayden. He was a complete cheese for the camera, always knowing when to smile. I dare to say that he loves to be in front of the camera and lights. Mom was a little stressed out to begin the session but as you can see from the images below she had no reason to worry. Hayden had everything under control and I just let him call the shots.

On Friday, Ashley and I headed out to Saylorville lake to photograph family photos for the Lumadue's. We originally had this scheduled early this year, but unseasonable cool weather forced us to cancel. This time around it was really hot. The breeze off the lake provided a little relief though, and we all made it through the photo shoot just fine. We took just a few pictures up at the visitor's center and the rest down on the beach. Melissa really wanted to go in the water and Brittany was up for it as well...Melissa decided it might have been a little bumpier than she realized once in the water. We had a great time! Below are a few of our favorites.

Earlier this week you saw a post for Emma's four month photos. On Tuesday, we got outside and took some additional family photos. Emma was much more excited about being outside. Although she may have been a little distracted by the bright flowers at Water Works Park. She did great and we got some awesome shots. Below are a few of our favorites.
Last Friday Ashley and I photographed family photos for the Grove family. We shot in their backyard and there was no shortage of places to get shots. We had a good time and got some great shots. A few of our favorites are below.

Last night Ashley photographed newborn and family photos for Lisa, Matt, Lydia, and the new addition Zach. Lydia was quite photogenic and it really shows through in the pictures. Below are just a few of our favorites.

On Thursday Brian photographed family photos for the Bubon family. Brian captured some great shots. The Bubon's were very photogenic. Below are just a few of our favorites.

On Wednesday I photographed family photos for a friend from high school. We took some shoots in the studio and tried to get outside for a some shots. We were able to get a few in even through the rain drops. Below are a few of our favorites.

Today Ashley and I took pictures of Josh, Dawn, and Carsen. Carsen will be turning three real soon so we got some 3-year old shots in as well as some family photos at the Botanical Center. The Botanical Center was quite busy today but we were able to find some spots and get some shots. Below are a few of our favorites.

Last week Ashley and I photographed family photos for the Walker Family. We previously shot Kylie's senior photos and her immediate family photos. This time we got the extended family together. Everyone was great to work with and we had a good time. Family photos that are shot in a family members home always have a personal feel and really give a warmth that you can't get anywhere else.

This past Sunday Ashley and I got the opportunity to photograph some family photos for the Simonson family. We had some fresh snow fall so we got outside and took some shots with a wintry back drop. Even though it was chilly out, everyone had a good time including the girls...we got some great shots and below are a few of our favorites.

I have known the Green family for a long time. Jeni and I graduated in the same class. We had a good time taking this photos and they were great to work with. Below are a few of our favorites.

The Walker family may have one familiar member. We photographed Kylie's senior photos earlier this year. Strangely their young son is named Gavin Cole....which is actually the two names of our children....interesting coincidence. We had a really fun time and got some great shots. Below are a few of our favorites.

The Slycord Family turned out to be one of the more interesting photo shoots we have done in a while. We headed out down dirt roads in Dallas and Madison counties. The Slycord's took us to a small suspension bridge that was an excellent location. What turned out to not be excellent was the weather. Nice in the morning then it was quite windy in the afternoon and the winds came flying across a large field. Iowa....

Erin and family contacted us to take some shots of their family. We ideally wanted to take some shots at their home. However, the sun wasn't cooperating and the best locations didn't work out. So we took off for the Saylorville visitors center and were able to take some shots their.
Our son Cole will be turning two in November. It is hard to believe how fast the time has gone. I remember long ago when my parents told me this would happen, but I didn't believe them. Now I understand. Time goes too fast and we can never rewind time. All we have are our memories. They are the most valuable things in the world. TAKE PICTURES! They will help the mind relive the most important times. Grab a digital, a film, or a one-time use camera...whatever it takes. Just take pictures. Keep those moments forever. Happy Birthday Cole!

Below are a few shots from a recent family photo shoot. We photographed at a school playground not to far from where we live. Playgrounds are always a little challenging but we had a great time. Below are some of our favorite shots.

We fought the cold and everyone was great. Even with the cold temperatures the young kids and adults did a great job. It could have been a lot worse!
This weekend we did two seperate photo shoots on opposite ends of the spectrum. We were able to have a fun and intense shoot with a bride-to-be on Saturday and a light and relaxing shoot with a family on Sunday. The bride-to-be was great to work with. We were able to work together and find a good compatibility with creativity. The photos turned out great. The family, which we will call the T family, was awesome. The kids were energetic and the parents equally fun. We were able to take some great shots and they turned out really well. Below are a few shots from the T family shoot.

More more more of the same this week. Should be exciting!
