Last week Ashley photographed Mayzie and Theo at Greenwood Park. The weather has been unseasonably COLD, but we are making the shoots fast and getting everyone back to the warmth quickly. The good news is the photos don't really show just how cold it is. Below are a few of our favorites.

We've been blogging on Connor for over 1 year now. Ashley shot his newborn, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, and now 1 year photos. I will let the photos do the talking....

Ethan is your typical three year old. He is bouncy, anxious, and has a short attention span. I recently had the opportunity to photograph Ethan at Raccoon River Park in West Des Moines, IA. Ethan was a little shy at first, but warmed up rather quickly. He was ready to pose and try out any of the fun ideas I had. As kids get older you can actually work with them during photo shoots which makes it much easier than photographing newborns up to two year olds. Something happens when they turn three and things get easier. We hung out near the nature lodge for a little while capturing some posey photos of Ethan and then turned him lose on the playground to have a little fun. We finished up the photo shoot with some shots down by the water. Ethan, Mom, and Dad were awesome to work with. Below are a few of our favorites.

Last week Ashley and I photographed Preston downtown. Preston is just over 1 year old and a GREAT smiler! He was awesome to photograph and did perfect, even with lots of little distractions all over the place. We shot Preston's photos in an urban area of Downtown on a Friday evening, it was a risk that it would be busy and overrun with people, but we lucked out and things were very calm. Below are a few of our favorites. Congratulations Preston on turning 1!

Little Hunter visited our studio a while back when he turned six months old. Now Hunter is turning 1! They really do grow that fast. Cole was also along for this photo shoot and spent most of this one taking photos of dad with the cell phone camera phone. (Actually, they didn't turn out that bad.) Hunter was great on the photo shoot and as with all photo shoots with young ones you just have to play along with them. Ashley was behind the camera for this entire shoot. Below are a few of our favorites. Congratulations Hunter!

On Tuesday Night Ashley and I had the awesome opportunity to photograph 2 year old Lincoln. Anyone out there that has a 2 year old or older knows what it's like to try and take their pictures. Now every once in a while you can get them to slow down to take a "cheese" shot with the cartoon grin and squinted eyes. It is better to let them run and run and run until they give up and just sit. Lincoln was no exception. We headed over to Water Works Park in Des Moines. Lincoln was pretty shy at first and you can definitely see that in some of the shots. He was really scared of me as I was holding our giant sun diffuser. So he was unsure about that. After some running around and snapping shots of him all over the place, he was much more comfortable with Ashley and I...mostly Ashley. We were able to get some great shots after waiting him out...and some from the beginning of the shoot as well. Thanks for a great time Mr. Lincoln!

1, 3, and 5...all boys! I grew up in a family of three boys just about the same age difference as these three. I'm sure my parents can find some common ground with these three's parents. On Tuesday Ashley photographed Aidan, Keenan, and Liam. The boy's were, well, boys. The great thing is that when they act natural you get such natural pictures. It is always better for them to be interactive and have a good time then to get tense and try to force them into static poses. They are kids, not statues! Ashley had a great time with the shoot and below are a few favorites!

Last night Ashley took photos of our friend Jenna's daughter Jada. Jada may have been the most photogenic person we have ever photographed. Ashley was working with her and without hesitation or instruction Jada was self posing and shifting expression. In one moment serious and stern, and in the next laughing and being playful. Ashley took just a few in studio and then we headed downtown to shoot some photos. Jada had a great time and it's easy when you are out taking photos and having fun. She was amazing in front of the camera and did a great job. Below are just a few, with more than usual, of our favorites.

Last night I got the opportunity to photography 5 year old Gabby and her little sister Shae. They were wonderful to work with. Gabby was very educational, informing me that Ariel, her favorite princess, has red hair, not blue, and she was also a big help changing backdrops. Shae is just a little charmer. Her face is always changing, you can't help but smile when photographing her. Here are a few sneak peeks from the shoot. Enjoy!

Last night Ashley and I photographed Henry's one year photos. We went downtown near the old train depot and also ventured near the capital building. Henry might very well be the most mobile one year old we've encountered. We had to chase him up and down the dock, alley, and sidewalk just to catch some photos. Henry was awesome and the only time he got upset was when we stopped moving to take a few family pictures. Henry will have one story to tell some day, as we ventured to the capital building, i had forgotten that they were filming the new movie The Experiment. We crashed the set, but stayed out of the way. Below are a few of our favorites shots.

This past Friday Ashley photographed her cousin's three children, Taylor, Mason, and Isabelle. Isabelle is the newest addition to the Porepp family. Ashley had an impromptu photo session with Isabelle at the family's Easter gathering (our cameras are like Am Ex, you never leave home without it), but good to get them in studio for a formal shoot. Below are just a few of our favorites!

Last night for Ashley's second photo shoot she took pictures of 2 year old Jose. Ashley has also done photos of Jose in the past and you can really tell how big he is getting. Jose did a great job in front of the camera and the pictures really show it. Below are just a few of our favorites!

Ethan just turned 5 and is full of energy. We had his attention for all of 15 minutes, then he was off and running. He has a great attitude and was a natural in front of the camera. Below are a few of our favorite shots.

Ashley and I photographed Anna and Stevie this past weekend. We always have a lot of fun when we get the chance to photograph these two. Stevie has the insta-smile. You try to catch him with a natural smile, but some how he turns it right back into a card board box smile. He definitely knows when the camera is on him.
