Stephanie and Jeff - Engagement and Wedding Photos in One Post

So the blog has been WAY WAY behind with all that we've had going on. Time for a little catch-up. In late May I photographed engagement photos for Stephanie and Jeff. We were lucky to get them in! They had been rescheduled once and to get Stephanie and Jeff's schedule in Des Moines to match-up with ours took some great luck. But we got them in only one short month before the wedding.

The two were married on June 26. It was an incredibly hot day, but it's summer and that's to be expected. What was not expected was the awesome trip to Snookies Malt Shop which was located just feet from the ceremony site. When we arrived the malt shop employees were awesome and let us inside to the closed dining area for some air conditioning and photos. Ashley was unable to shoot this wedding with me (due to Parker's pending arrival) so Levi was once again working with me. Stephanie and Jeff held their reception at the same location that Ashley and I were both married at and held our reception, so returning there had special meaning to me. Not to mention that Ashley was not by my side. Levi is great, but Ashley is my other half in many ways. The day turned out beautifully, the families were amazing, and Stephanie and Jeff looked fantastic. Check out engagement and wedding photos below!

Parker Nuzum

Ashley and I are proud to introduce Parker Nuzum. Born Thursday, July 15, at 3:11 pm. Parker weighed 8lbs, 3.9oz and was 20.5 inches long. All of the below photos were taken within the first 24 hours of Parker's birth, with the exception of the going home picture which was taken at 27 hours. Here's Parker...

Henry turns 2

On Wednesday the 30th of June, I had another opportunity to take photos of Henry. Henry is definitely one of my favorite photo subjects. He makes me feel like a kid again. Henry likes to run and run and run....and so I chase and chase and chase. I quickly snapped over 1300 photos of Henry and his parents. You have to take that many just get a few where he is stopped or looking at the camera. They were setting up for 80/35 but we were still able to get the photos we wanted and they turned out great. I'm still trying to catch me breath from all the chasing. Below are a few of our favorites.

Diana and Andy

On June 12th Ashley and I photographed Diana and Andy's wedding. The planning was pretty crazy for Diana and Andy. Originally slated to get married at the Nature Lodge at Raccoon River Park a certain triathlon took precedence. The plans were then changed and the wedding was to be held outside the Hy-Vee corporate headquarters...mother nature didn't agree. Rain made the ground to wet and the ceremony was moved to the West Des Moines Marriott. THE Marriott. Not the Courtyard by Marriott or the Suite by Marriott or any of the other hotel locations "by Marriott." The good news was that the weather outside was actually fantastic. So although the overnight rain ruined the outside ceremony, we were still able to get outside and get some amazing shots. Ashley and I can take pictures pretty much anywhere. We don't need much room, we don't need much background, we don't need much of anything. We were able to get some awesome shots right in front of the hotel. but.....

we got to go shoot with a fire truck. Andy is a West Des Moines firefighter and we had the opportunity to take a few photos with one of the fire trucks. We loved the opportunity and I think we got some great shots with it. It was an awesome time, a beautiful day, and a big success. Congratulations Diana and Andy!

Michaela and Jon

On to a recent shoot! We have been so far behind on the blog, but were making up for it now. On Friday the 2nd, I photographed engagement photos for Michaela and Jon. We shot downtown in the Court Ave. area. It was the second Friday in a row that I'd shot in the area, but we were able to find some new and unique shots. Every photo shoot has it's own unique story of how things went, how they came together, and how I choose the shots I did. This shoot had a little of everything. It was hot...I mean hot. It was on the same night as the Wing Ding 32 parade and they were setting up for 80/35. We worked around everything and got some great shots. Below are a few of our favorites.

Maddie and Shawn

Never before have I been on an engagement shoot with such a fun and easy going couple. Maddie and Shawn are extremely relaxed and comfortable with each other and in front of the camera. If ever a photo shoot was "free-form" this would be the one. It was a little warm out but we had a great time working our way around the Rose Garden, Art Center, and Greenwood Park. These photos hold the 1,000 words you are looking for. So I will shut-up...on to the photos...

Annabelle

I had the great privilege of photographing little Annabelle. It was quite the task to get the shoot scheduled as conflicts kept arising. Once we were able to get the shoot in we had a great time and captured some beautiful shots. Annabelle really likes the camera. We shot at both Raccoon River Park and Valley Junction. Not once did Annabelle get even a little upset. Below are a few of our favorites.

Hitomi and Justin

Hitomi and Justin are getting married later this year and contacted us to have engagement photos done ahead of the wedding. We shot downtown around the Court Ave. area. I asked Levi Yamen to join me on the shoot and between the two of us we turned out some great shots. Court Ave. on a Friday evening is always interesting and busy. That didn't phase them. See below for some of our favorites.

Stephanie and Jeff

Two things tend to be true with every engagement session. 1. The guys usually don't like doing photos and 2. The guys usually end up having fun with the photos. Stephanie and Jeff have been awesome to work with. Their engagement photos were taken just a couple weeks ahead of the wedding. Luckily we were able to get them rescheduled after having to cancel earlier this year. We shot at a couple spots including Valley Junction and Water Works Park. I had a great time and Jeff even said he did too. Some of our favorites are below.

Aaron

Ashley has been photographing Aaron since before he was born. Ashley took maternity photos for Aaron's parents and has been capturing him over the course of the last year. Whenever you look back it always reminds you of just how fast kids grow up. Here is a link to Aaron's newborn photos and his one-year photos are below.
